STEP 1 (APRIL 15 – MAY 10):
Fertilizer plus Crabgrass Control. Crabgrass, under normal Ohio weather, does not germinate until mid to late May. This product is a pre and post emergence control. It will kill the crabgrass before it germinates or after it sprouts. Once the crabgrass is established, it will not kill it. Seeding to close to this application will not allow seed to come up unless you use our special application.
STEP 2 (MAY – JUNE):
Weed Killer plus Fertilizer is the next application and can be applied 30 days after September 1. Weeds need to be actively growing and be times so that it does not rain for 48 hours after applying. It is best to apply first thing in the morning with the dew on the grass. If you do not need a weed control, an alternative would be 28-0-10 Slow Release. A new lawn must be mowed 3 times before applying Weed & Feed.
STEP 3 (JUNE – JULY):
Grub Control plus Fertilizer. This can be applied 30 days after Step 2. July is the best month to apply. This will control the new generation of grubs that will hatch in late July or August. This product is best if watered in after applying.
AUGUST 15 – SEPTEMBER 30 IS THE BEST TIME TO SEED!!
STEP 4 (SEPTEMBER):
One of two products can be used at this time of year. Weed Killer plus Fertilizer can be applied if weeds are still a problem. If your weeds are under control Slow Release works well.
STEP 5 (OCTOBER 15 – NOVEMBER 1):
We suggest a high nitrogen such as Slow Release 28-0-10 or 46-0-0 be used. The plant stores this nitrogen for use in the Spring while extending Fall colors. Apply this before November to help reduce snow mold. This is the most important fertilizer application of the year.
